The Orchards at Southington receives SeniorAdvisor.com Best and GreenCircle awards

The Orchards at Southington received two prestigious awards in December, one on the national level and the second from the state of Connecticut.

SeniorAdvisor.com recognized The Orchards with a Best of 2015 Award that recognizes senior living and home care providers that consistently receive high ratings and positive reviews from their residents, families and visitors, according to Eric Seifert, president, SeniorAdvisor.com. Nationally, this designation is awarded to less than one percent of providers.

To qualify for a SeniorAdvisor.com Best of 2015 Award, winners must receive an average overall rating of at least 4.5 stars (out of five) and a minimum number of reviews. To be considered, candidates must offer at least one of the following types of care: assisted living, Alzheimer’s care, independent living, low-income senior housing, skilled nursing, or, for the first time this year, in-home care.

The Orchards also received the GreenCircle Award from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. This award, implemented 16 years ago, recognizes businesses, individuals and community organizations whose activities or projects promote conservation and/or environmental awareness.

The Orchards was recognized for its many eco-minded programs, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise program and Food Recovery Challenge, tracking and reducing the volume of food waste through prevention, donations and recycling. Other programs in action include “Come Grow with Us,” in partnership with American Forests, a non-profit conservation dedicated to protecting and restoring forest ecosystems. For every new employee and resident, American Forests plants a tree in their honor. The Orchards’ grounds are also managed in an eco-friendly manner and its Serenity Garden was recognized as a certified wildlife habitat.

“The Orchards at Southington is proud that we received these two distinctions. Diverse in nature, they recognize and reward the fact that our community has successfully established and nurtured an optimum quality of life for our residents,” said Audrey Vinci, The Orchards of Southington executive director. “These achievements demonstrate how The Orchards family - residents, loved ones and staff – take pride in all we do and who we are.”
